On the road to Denver, 1984
Seattle and Vancouver, BC area Minis toured en force to the first EAST MEETS WEST MINI MEET in Denver. Turned out the trip there and back was almost as much fun as the meet itself. Atkins, Kolosoff, Sauer, Beebe, Soucy are the names to go with the Minis in these photos, just a few of the impressive number of Minis that made the trip. And who can forget Patrick from Vancouver who brought his toucan along for the ride.

Pat's bird was a macaw
There were two groups that went from here that year: the bigger fast group (pictured) and the smaller slow group. MOKE (with Cooper S engine) went with Jim Kirbach in his spotless, low mileage, red Canadian car, and Bert Lobberegt in PEEKUP (which won Best of Show as I recall).
Many great stories from that trip!
Soucy hogging the parking place.
Atkins in left lane.
Soucy leading the four in the right lane, followed by Beebe, then Sauer (or visa versa -- hard to tell in the photo) followed by Kolosoff.
So who took the photo?
I remember Bert spend the entire Meet behind a video camera; including, riding the in the back of MOKE in the hot sun during the rally.
Remember Bert filming Rodger interviewing people using a camshaft as a dummy mic. Well, it was funny at the time.
Bert put together a nice video of the event. Jackie Bardsley narrated it. I'm sure I still have a copy. Maybe it needs to get moved to the top of the pile for the Christmas meeting.
Macaw, toucan, parrot, whatever. Toucan do it too.
Remind me to tell the story sometime about arriving late for the fireworks display in MOKE with the top down. Made a wrong turn and ended up on a road that went right through the middle of where they were setting the fireworks off.
